I think it's awesome that this book has such power to help people realize who they want to be and how to place themselves on the spectrum of Islam (or whatever ideology they subscribe to).

Anyway, thank you for reading my review!Peterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07902520734911599084noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3503493182742522996.post-42198919629629057452012-06-17T17:09:10.099-05:002012-06-17T17:09:10.099-05:00This book changed everything for me. It didn'...This book changed everything for me. It didn't turn me into a fan of punk (I like New Wave, never liked punk). I didn't put on a burqa with bumperstickers attached; I'm too old for that.

What it did do,was make me see that God's idea of Islam (surrendering to the Beloved) is most likely cosmic. I feel closer to Allah now because I trust S/He doesn't accept only the ones who do everything by the Book. Those of us who choose to be authentic and Muslim do not hide behind conformity. We know God sees through all that conformity. We know that God sees we are who we are and we live gratefully because God makes us who we are.

Islam has plenty of room for all of us.... In regards to your first paragraph, this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emerging_adulthood is a slightly new theory that is somewhat relevant.

Metaphysical conversations with friends definitely seems to be less frequent, and maybe the 'cost' of adulthood is a lessening of overall availability, but I don't think those discussions are any less relevant or pertinent. It seems more that time constraints and distance prevent them from arising. I find email a great venue for them, albeit it changes the immediacy of the communication.Waithttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15366664403418068414noreply@blogger.com
